Musical Pedagogy – Instruction imparting musical knowledge or skill.

Private lessons provide an environment in which students can explore their artistic expression with greater freedom and more depth of instruction than can be achieved in limited school group music programs.

In my own life, music has provided the most awesome and exciting journey that is second only to being a proud parent. Assisting a young musician as they embark on this incredible ride is a most rewarding experience! It is with that spirit of enthusiasm that I approach private music lessons.

One on one time provides both basic navigation skills and roadmaps that the fledgling music student will need to travel down any long and winding musical road.

The Sturcken Philosophy upon which the center is based:

Tone, intonation and fingerings are all just navigation tools. Scales are just road maps for playing in any musical key. The joy of the journey doesn’t come from reading the map, but from heading down the road (and sometimes off the road also). So scales and warm-ups are just a tool to achieve the ultimate goal which is to perform songs and truly make music.

The focus of lessons at COPA is on being musical and playing songs in different styles. Playing sample songs in various keys and styles will create fluency across the entire instrument and not just within a single key or genre.

When a piece is ready, we can make full advantage of the recording studio to gain recording experience for the student as well. This also allows them to listen and critique their performance as an audience would. Finally they can take home a CD for the whole family to treasure.

Music is a great gift and is meant to be enjoyed! At COPA we like to keep it that way.

Instruments Taught
Beginners or accomplished performers are welcomed.
Piano lessons are available on acoustic piano as well as electronic keyboards.
Guitar lessons are available for acoustic, electric, 12-string, and bass.
Voice lessons are available for Soprano, Alto, Tenor, and Bass.
Drum lessons are available on both acoustic and electric drum sets.
Woodwind lessons are available for flute, clarinet, and all saxes.
Brass lessons are available for all valve instruments as well as slide trombone.
